Prayer Page
Saviour, we respond to the gospel of your love and we come in prayer.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
God of love,
We pray for your Spirit of peace to move in our communities,
that those who are targets of hate might be safe
and that people of good will might work together in love and respect.
We pray for your Spirit of healing,
that those who grieve, might be comforted
and those who are injured might be made well.
We pray for your Spirit of hope,
that those who despair might see a way ahead
and those who live in fear might find sanctuary and freedom.
Soften the hearts of those motivated by hate
and help us all to love our neighbours as those made in your image.
In Christ’s name.
Amen
Praying for peace
Lord God hear our prayers for peace in the Middle East.
May all people in the region be protected safe from harm.
We pray that this crisis will end now with no further loss of life.
May the injured and distressed know your healing presence.
May the powerful and the decision makers follow the path of justice, mercy and peace.
We pray for recognition of the dignity and value of every life.
May the clamour for violence cease, changing swords into ploughshares.
Father God, in Your name. Amen.
Almighty God we pray for the situation in Ukraine.
We pray for those who live in fear, that you may grant them peace.
We pray that the voices for discernment and peaceful solutions may prosper.
Lord, we ask that you raise up peacemakers on all sides, that war and violence might be averted.
Give diplomats wisdom, understanding and build trust.
We ask for the church in the nations involved, may they be salt and light in a dark situation.
Lord we lift this dangerous situation to you.
May your kingdom come,
Amen.
Prayer by Fred Drummond, Evangelical Alliance Scotland and prayer direct
Let us pray for the world [silence]:
May leaders of nations have the courage to walk the path of peace together
so that the most vulnerable in their lands may live with dignity and hope.
We pray.
Let us pray for all Christians and people of all faiths or none [silence]:
May the Creator of all grant us in Christ a spirit of wisdom and understanding,
counsel and knowledge, fortitude, right judgment, patience, and kindness,
as we discern what is good and just and follow our conscience.
We pray.
Let us pray for reconciliation [silence]:
May we learn to love each other despite our differences
and focus on the work that continues,
the work of unity, respect for one another and for all life, and peace in our land.
We pray.
Let us pray for the ones most affected by the choices we make [silence]:
In all we do, may we keep the merciful face of Christ ever before us
who is seen in those who are poor, refugees, or migrants,
those who are sick or without homes, those without food or meaningful work,
those unborn, and those whose lives are unvalued.
We pray.
Amen.
Of Confession and Forgiveness
God in your love be good to me.
God in your mercy blot out my offences.
Wash me clean from all my guilt and cleanse me from my sin.
God create in me a pure heart,
A new spirit. A stronger faith. A greater love.
When i am faced with the greatness of your love,
I realise how far short i fall in comparison to you.
My life should be a reflection of your love.
Love should be the basis of my living.
Yet i become more concerned with myself than putting you first, doing your will and thinking of others.
Yet in your love for me, though i often fail, you are always there ready to give me a new start.
Thank you for that.
I ask for your forgiveness
To help me to begin again with a love like yours.
Amen
Lords Prayer
An Offering
Lord we give our ourselves, our time, our wealth, gifts, graces and talents.
Use them according to your will.
Lord, we give you our pasts and ask for your forgiveness.
We give you our present time and ask for your guidance.
We give you our futures. In you do we trust and hope.
A prayer of St Francis of Assisi
LORD, grant me I pray –
Courage when the best things fail me,
Calm and poise when storms assail me
Common sense when things perplex me,
A sense of humour when they vex me;
Hope when disappointments damp me,
Wider vision when life cramps me,
Kindness when folk need it badly
Readiness to help them gladly,
And when effort seems in vain –
Wisdom to begin again
